Drama Britain
The About Us section is the page where we write in more detail about Drama Britain and its founder Edward James (Ed).
Hi, I'm Ed. and yes, I founded this website. I help to run it together with some of the many loyal friends and members of Drama Britain (New Members are warmly welcomed so please get intouch through email).
Our aim is to provide easy access to information about drama groups i.e. how to find them, how to join, what happens there, and how it all works. We hope to ease any worries you may have about getting involved in community theatre. Please don't worry!
Years ago I realised that for many people wanting to get involved in drama, it can be a very scarey and daunting prospect. People are often put off from getting active in their community theatre scene for a variety of reasons. So I started this project in the hope that this site, and the information and guidance we provide, goes someway towards removing any percieved barriers that may exsist for you in participating in this, most wonderful art form. I know you will enjoy it once you start and you, like me will never look back!
As well as being great fun and a fantastic social outlet, community drama can also help people who have experienced certain difficulties (as many of us have). Be it great sadness, depression, illness or another problem that stops you from getting on and enjoying life, being a part of a creative group can often help you deal with these aspects life. Taking part in theatre allows you to lose yourself for a short time, act out frustrations, kick back and relax or just feel like you are a part of something away from the usual routine. It can also give you a tremdous feeling of achievement that is easily found elsewhere but is such an important thing in life. To feel alive!
Working in a drama group has built great confidence and many good friendships for me and for many others. It has given me a much needed distraction during hard times, and has allowed me to return to ordinary life feeling refreshed and with a different perspective on my situation. It has the power to do this for you too, but you and only you must make it happen.
So I urge you to look at this site and to use the information we have gathered, and to get involved with community theatre. If you already are involved, please let us know what you're doing and we will post your details here to inform and inspire others. This is a new site so allow us to get are act together or even volunteer some help - we need you.
Thank you
Edward James (Ed)
