The About Us section is the page where we write in more detail about Drama Britain and its founder Edward James (Ed).

Hi, I'm Ed.  and yes, I founded this website. I help to run it together with some of the many loyal friends and members of Drama Britain (New Members are warmly welcomed so please get intouch through email).

Our aim is to provide easy access to information about drama groups i.e. how to find them, how to join, what happens there, and how it all works.  We hope to ease any worries you may have about getting involved in community theatre.  Please don't worry!

Years ago I realised that for many people wanting to get involved in drama, it can be a very scarey and daunting prospect.  People are often put off from getting active in their community theatre scene for a variety of reasons. So I started this project in the hope that this site, and the information and guidance we provide, goes someway towards removing any percieved barriers that may exsist for you in participating in this, most wonderful art form.  I know you will enjoy it once you start and you, like me will never look back!

As well as being great fun and a fantastic social outlet, community drama can also help people who have experienced certain difficulties (as many of us have).  Be it great sadness, depression, illness or another problem that stops you from getting on and enjoying life, being a part of a creative group can often help you deal with these aspects life.  Taking part in theatre allows you to lose yourself for a short time, act out frustrations, kick back and relax or just feel like you are a part of something away from the usual routine.  It can also give you a tremdous feeling of achievement that is easily found elsewhere but is such an important thing in life.   To feel alive!

Working in a drama group has built great confidence and many good friendships for me and for many others.  It has given me a much needed distraction during hard times, and has allowed me to return to ordinary life feeling refreshed and with a different perspective on my situation.  It has the power to do this for you too, but you and only you must make it happen.

So I urge you to look at this site and to use the information we have gathered, and to get involved with community theatre.  If you already are involved, please let us know what you're doing and we will post your details here to inform and inspire others.  This is a new site so allow us to get are act together or even volunteer some help - we need you.

Thank you

Website history
We first had the idea to start this website about three years ago while visiting a friend in the Wirral.  I sensed that my friend was lonely and I was talking about how much I enjoyed my weekly drama group.  She wished she knew of one locally as it would be a nice outlet for her.  I did some research and found information for a perfect little group very near to her, with people in her age group. A few months later at my church coffee morning the same thing happened and again I passed on some info to a couple of people.  Later on I discovered both sets of people who I had given info to had not acted on it.  After discussing it with them I found that they had a number of worries about getting involved such as embarrasment, getting to the groups, how to approach the people there and various other issues taht I'm sure we all experience when thinking of doing something new.  Because my actual area of work is social research, I did a brief questionnaire with these people a few weeks later and interviewed several more interested people who I knew to be in similar head spaces.  Through this information gathering I managed to get the beginings of what was a plan.  This plan was to help alay these (as much a spossible) fears and barriers people have to getting involved with community groups.  The result is this website.   I am continuing to add to the site and me and a few dedicated helper also work to ensure it keeps growing with knowledge and improving with age (like we all should!)  I never stop talking to people and I am always looking at new ways of involving new people in activities surrounding drama, as I believe it to be the best kind of creative activity you can do.  I am keen for people to also become a part of Drama Britain by contributing your experiences and knowledge so please please send us your news and articles and any relavent info.  So what are you waiting for, its never too late to ACT!
